Inside SLEIC: Challenge, Village, Eyes Open

The Sierra Leone Education Innovation Challenge (SLEIC) was one of the largest outcomes-based education programmes in Sierra Leone, and among the most ambitious in sub-Saharan Africa. Led by the Government of Sierra Leone and supported by a wide range of partners, SLEIC marked a deliberate shift toward financing education based on measurable results.

To mark the close of SLEIC, the Education Outcomes Fund (EOF), together with Rising Academies, has released three new videos offering a look inside the programme. The videos reflect on what it took to move away from the status quo, the partnerships that made implementation possible, and the role of learning and evidence.

SLEIC was built on collaboration between government, implementing partners, schools, and communities across the country. Staying focused on outcomes required openness, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from what worked, and what did not. These lessons will now help inform the next phase of education reform and public spending in Sierra Leone.
